Get involved…

Tayside is a deanery with a keen research interest. The academic department is headed by Professor Arpit Jariwala, but there are a wide variety of research studies being conducted throughout the department under various leads. A little bit about our research

Research in Tayside

Both trainees and consultants in Tayside have a keen interest in both clinical, and non-clinical research. The department has strong links with the University of Dundee which allows an excellent partnership. As well as local research, we are involved in a number of national trials.

Our track record

The department has a long track record of published research and internationally presented work. Our department has a focus on clinically-relevant output, as well as teaching, and this is reflected in the supervision of multiple PhD and MCh theses each year.

Who we work with

As noted previously, our department has an excellent relationship with the University of Dundee, and particularly its department of biomechanics. We have helped to recruit patients to national trials also, expanding our research network.

What are we doing?

Currently, the department is looking into large-scale reviews of specific operations, as well as looking at PROMs (Patient Reported Outcome Measures) for a number of procedures undertaken locally. We are also actively involved in recruiting patients to the SOFFT trial looking at olecranon fractures.

Latest developments

Most recently our trainees have been presenting work at various national and international conferences, including upcoming podium presentations at EFORT Annual Congress in Vienna. One of our trainees has also recently been awarded the prestigious BHS Travelling Fellowship on a background of significant research in the area of hip arthroplasty.
